The city of Oued Amlil is situated in the region of Morocco of Taza-Al Hoceima Taounate and counts approximately 10 000 inhabitants in the last census of 2004.
Ethymologiquement the name of Oued Amlil results from Berber words asif amlil to speak about it about Znata ( Arif) and asif umlil who means " the white river " to speak about it about sanhadja (Berber of the average Atlas). Actually, the region of Taza is originally a zone of linguistic transition between Arabic and Berber but the current population expresses itself in Arabic.
The inhabitants as well as the quarriers of Oued Amlil arise from a considered tribe called "Les Ghiatas" who demonstrated qualities of resistance to the foreign colonial campaigns of the beginning of 20 ème century. Today still this behavior of bravery is celebrated through cavalier dances which are a part of the Moroccan national floklore: " Nicknamed the warriors, rifles in hands, they dance in the sound of the drum and accordeon music(shoulder bags). They do not proceed to the singing(song), but push deaf and rhythmic shouts, the dancers feign cavalcades, enjoy themselves with weapons as with toys, put them on the heads, they support, turn(shoot) the standard(cannon) of their rifle to the ground and, on the brief order, blow up their load(responsibility) of powder, aiming at an imaginary enemy.
In archives, an article writes by a French traveler in 1899 entitled " Of Fes in Oranie, through the country of Ghiata (valley of the inaoun), the author written about ghiatas " It thus remained to recognize only the road Fez-Tazamessoun which goes along the valley of Inaoun, unknown until this day, the Ghiata, undefeated tribe and bellliqueuse, having always opposed to the entry of the makhzen on their territory which extends of Haïaïna in Taza.
" At 3:20 am, we arrive with the aim of Aïne Touta and of Dardara situated on the left bank; it is between these two points that Oued Amlil, of Tsoul, throws(casts) itself in Inaoun. The valley presents its biggest width, approximately one kilometre there;
" Ghiata occupies the valley of Inaoun, Taza in Haïaïna and from the tsoul to beni Ouaraïn. Their population, estimated at more than 7000 souls, finds accommodation in dechara, built in stones (schists and clay) and occupant, for the greater part, uneven and strategic points ".
" Farmers and cattle breeders, Béni Ouaraïn and Ghiata are little storekeepers. Their political and social system is the same; postponing, in it, surrounding tribes, they rarely practise the polygamy. "
